The Sanctuary of Artemis Amarysia in Amarynthos

Thanks to the Swiss-Greek excavations, the long-sought sanctuary of Artemis Amarysia in Amarynthos has now been located beyond doubt. This booklet edited by Karl Reber is intended as a general summary of the research that has been carried out during more than 20 years of excavations.

Archaeologists are still a long way from understanding the sanctuary in its entirety. Although many questions remain unanswered, it was considered important to summarise what has been achieved so far. The timing coincides with the conclusion of the Swiss National Science Foundation’s four-year research programme (2017-2021), which marks an important first stage.
