Educational Visits in Greece for Swiss Schools and Universities

Visiting Archaeological Sites and Museums in Greece

Swiss schools and universities wishing to organise educational visits to archaeological sites and museums in Greece are kindly requested to familiarise themselves with the following procedures.

A. Permit for Educational Guiding
Teachers and university professors who wish to conduct educational tours themselves must obtain  authorisation from the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. The ESAG can assist with this procedure, provided that the school or university supplies the following documents:

  • List of trip participants, including teachers and students, signed and stamped by the university dean or by the appropriate authorised representative of the institution.
  • Official certificate issued by the institution, accompanied by photographs of the teachers concerned, confirming their professional status and the educational purpose of the trip. This document must be signed and stamped by the university dean or by the appropriate authorised representative of the institution.
  • List of archaeological sites and museums to be visited, specifying the planned date and time of each visit.

Requests handled by The ESAG must be submitted to info@esag.swiss at least two months in advance.

B. Entrance Tickets / Free Admission to Sites and Museums Managed by the Ministry of Culture

Students who are nationals of non-EU countries are eligible for free admission, while teachers may be eligible for a 50% discount, subject to the admission rules applicable to each site.

For most archaeological sites, tickets must be booked online in advance. Schools and universities are responsible for making these reservations themselves through the official Hellenic Heritage website: https://www.hh.gr/en/become-a-partner/

Each institution must create an account by following the partner registration procedure. Once the account has been activated, the institution can proceed with ticket reservations directly.

⚠ Please note: Tickets for highly popular sites, particularly the Acropolis, often sell out quickly, especially for morning time slots. Institutions are therefore strongly advised to monitor availability regularly and book as early as possible.

C. Entrance Tickets / Free Admission to Private Sites and Museums, and to the Acropolis Museum, the National Archaeological Museum and the Byzantine Museums

Free admission to private museums, as well as to certain major museums, including the Acropolis Museum, the National Archaeological Museum and the Byzantine Museums, may be arranged upon request. Institutions may contact the museums directly or ask the ESAG to make the necessary arrangements on their behalf.
