Artemis – The Lost Temple

The location of the Sanctuary of Artemis at Amarynthos has long remained one of the great archaeological enigmas of Greek antiquity.

For 50 years, Swiss historian Denis Knoepfler has been passionate about this lost temple. Thanks to his research, and the tenacity of a team of Swiss-Greek archaeologists, the mystery was finally unravelled in 2017. It was one of the most stunning archaeological discoveries made in Greece for 30 years and attracted significant media attention.

The documentary film retraces this collective epic and details the crucial stages of a long-term investigation that has fascinated, and will continue to fascinate, several generations of archaeologists.
